Meet Sarang Ahuja
Sarang Ahuja is an aspiring musician and passionate sports fan. He currently resides in Houston, Texas. Growing up he learned values of hard work and perseverance from his father who worked as a salesman and his mother who worked as a high school english teacher. Sarang attended North Providence High School where he participated in golf, basketball, football and baseball. He also participated in a variety of music and drama productions at the school including swing choir where he could dance and sing and band where he played percussion and guitar.
Music
From an early age Sarang Ahuja has had a love of music of all varieties. In 2008 Sarang heard his favorite musician, Jack Johnson, for the first time. At that moment he knew that he wanted to pursue a career in music and would stop at nothing to achieve his dream. Soon after, Sarang bought a guitar and played daily trying to replicate the chords and melodies that Jack Johnson created. He listened to albums like Brushfire Fairytales, In Between Dreams and Sleep Through the Static and soon he could play each song from memory.
His love for music has since grown and Sarang now listens to a variety of artists such as Of Monsters and Men, Mumford and Sons, and The Black Keys. With tireless effort Sarang began creating music of his own, starting out as simple, wordless songs at first to songs up to three and four minutes in length. He now considers his playing style a culmination of all his heroes’ and he continues to make music today in hopes of signing a record deal someday.
Sports
As a four sport athlete in high school, Sarang Ahuja developed an interest for any sporting event available. Growing up in Rhode Island, a state with no professional sports teams, Sarang found that he could choose his favorite sports teams. The NFL gripped his interest first and at the age of 14 he became a diehard Minnesota Vikings fan. As football season turned into basketball season he began watching the NBA more closely. He became obsessed with the Lebron James led Cavaliers and highlighted his experience by going to the 2007 NBA Finals featuring the Cleveland Cavaliers versus the San Antonio Spurs. Sarang Ahuja is also a Washington Nationals fan. A lover of the underdog, Sarang decided to support the Nationals in their first season as a club in 2005 and hasn’t looked back. Recently Sarang Ahuja has become enthralled with the PGA tour. Sarang tries to watch golf as often as he can and play golf even more.
Sarang Ahuja has competed and placed highly in several events around the country. Sarang began playing poker in 2005, but first came on the tournament scene in 2009, when he participated in the 40th Annual World Series of Poker. Sarang competed in the No-Limit Hold’em (Event 7) where the buy in was $1,500. The event took place in the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The stage was set with over 2,700 entrants and a prize pool of just over $3.8 million. Sarang Ahuja played extremely well and after a strong showing over 3 days, finished 31st, cashing out at more than $15,000.
Besides being fun, playing poker is also important to Sarang. He enjoys it because it allows him to focus on the game and not on the world around him. One of the main reasons why Sarang Ahuja enjoys playing poker is the challenge. It allows him to think about the game and its various facets. While sitting at a table with several people, he can see how far he can go to outmaneuver his opponents.
When he’s not at the poker table, Sarang Ahuja is a dedicated financial professional. He has always been interested in math and worked at various financial firms after graduating from high school. After graduating from high school, he pursued his studies at Florida State University. He earned his degree in finance and his Master’s in business administration from the FSU’s Warrington College of Business Administration. He believes that finance is very important to a company’s success. Over the course of his career, he has worked for various businesses. His passion for taking calculated risks and learning about patterns have helped him both in his professional and poker career.
